Our goal is to provide you with the very best resources, techniques and strategies to help you overcome anxiety. We aim to include the latest ideas about managing stress and anxiety, overcoming anxiety disorder, overcoming depression without medication, & much, much more.
Most people have experienced anxiety at one time or another in their lives.
Sometimes, for some people, anxiety can take over and become a real problem.
Whatever your situation, we have something to help you – whether to deal with everyday stress and anxiety, or to overcome the more disabling types of anxiety – anxiety and panic disorders, OCD, PTSD, etc.
The members of our team have professional backgrounds in psychotherapy and counselling, so we understand the mainstream approaches to anxiety and anxiety disorders – medication and psychological interventions such as CBT.
We also bring you insights from our personal experiences with anxiety.
We have experience with some of the alternative approaches to anxiety and anxiety disorders, and we include information about the ones we and others have found useful.
Some of the most helpful approaches are the oldest – meditation and breathing techniques, and the rediscovered practice of mindfulness.
There are also exciting new discoveries in brain science that have practical applications that we want to share with you.
Here at Overcoming Your Anxiety we take a positive approach to life. No matter how severe or how disabling your anxiety seems, it is not all of who you are.
Anxiety has its roots in your body and your mind – and in their meeting place, your brain. Once you understand the way anxiety takes hold, and understand how to break this cycle, it is truly possible to overcome anxiety and achieve emotional balance!
Hello, I'm Vanessa Meadows, chief writer and information compiler at OvercomingYourAnxiety.net.
I've got academic credentials - degrees in science (BSc Hons) and in clinical psychology (Master of Psychology).
Before I began writing for OvercomingYourAnxiety.net, I worked for many years as a psychologist and psychotherapist, with people who suffered from various degrees of anxiety, depression, stress, and other conditions which stopped them from living fully.
A few years ago, at a very stressful time in my life, I began to experience anxiety attacks, and later developed depression. In my search for personal help, I discovered for myself the limits of mainstream psychology and medicine (it's not all bad, as long as you understand that for the most part, it only offers a very limited perspective).
In fact, there is a lot of other useful stuff out there – but it can be hard to sort out the useful stuff from the not-so-useful.
My job here is to do some of this sorting out for you. I want to provide you with enough information to make your own decisions about what is right for you.... and to be more proactive and informed in discussions with your health provider.
(If you are currently in treatment, you should always consult your health provider before trying something new, especially if it is a supplement, or a strategy that is very different from anything you are currently doing).
P.S. We do our best to ensure the information on this site is accurate and up to date. But if you find any errors, please let us know!
