Perhaps your child is anxious about school: meeting new kids, or talking in front of the class, or doing exams.
Or maybe it's about something else – some trauma, or changes at home, or something a bit irrational like fear of the dark, or maybe nothing in particular, just general anxiety that seems to be there most of the time.
It's tough when you're a parent and you see your child suffering!
And anxiety can make a child unhappy faster than almost anything else...
Whatever it is, it's hard to know how to deal with it. You want to help your child, right? But you also feel helpless to know what to do.
Maybe you've thought about therapy or counselling – but you're a bit sceptical about whether this will do any good. You don't want your child to get a nasty medical label, or to be given drugs that might cause all sorts of health problems. But you're at your wits' end...
Announcing Turnaround – an award-winning, kid-friendly program developed by two experienced child therapists, instantly downloadable and designed for easy home use.
Turnaround is a 10-part audio program, written as an adventure story in kid-friendly language so it's easy (and fun) for your child to understand and relate to. You won't need to worry that you are just adding to your child's misery by forcing her into a treatment program!
The program has been professionally designed and produced, and it's based on the principles of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), which is a proven effective therapeutic strategy to reduce anxiety. In effect, CBT helps a child challenge the thought patterns that cause anxiety. Done properly, a well-designed story can be the best way to help children learn the skills to do this for themselves and get long-term benefit from this.
Educational research shows that children are naturally wired to learn about life from hearing stories. The six main characters in the Turnaround adventure story are all kids, prone to different types of anxiety so your child will be able to relate strongly to at least one, and most likely several of them. And kids tend to take more notice of what other kids say. So no matter what sort of anxiety your child may suffer from – general anxiety, panic, social anxiety, phobia, or even obsessive compulsive disorder – your child will get the benefit of learning how other children deal constructively with anxiety in a range of situations.
Meet David Russ and Christopher McCarthy, the two Licensed Therapists who developed the Turnaround Program to fill a huge hole they could see in the market. Because while there were (and are) other children's anxiety programs available, none of them speak directly to the child in the way that Tunraround does. Other programs rely instead on giving instructions to parents to try to turn them into therapists so they can help their children. And we all know that doesn't work very well. It takes special expertise to work with children in a way that those children can relate to and benefit from!
David Russ, PhD is President and a Licensed Practicing Psychologist at Carolinas Counseling Group in Charlotte, North Carolina. He specializes in helping both children and adults with anxiety disorders in his busy practice, as well as being a co-founder of the Turnaround Program.
Christopher McCarthy, PhD, LPC is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who specializes in anxiety disorders, child & teen behavioral issues, parenting, and couple communication. He and David Russ co-created Turnaround as a way to help more children with a professional, research based program.
The Turnaround Program has been endorsed by independent mental health professionals as well as the National Parenting Centre, and there are hundreds of testimonials from grateful parents and from children themselves, about the effectiveness of Turnaround in helping kids get rid of anxiety.
And if this is not enough, an Australian research study has shown that Turnaround is every bit as effective as face-to-face professional therapy (CBT) for children, with almost half the children in the study being free from any clinical level of anxiety at a three month follow-up.
As one mom told us, "I heard the same CBT concepts in Turnaround that were taught my son at the Duke University Anxiety Disorders Clinic, but what made all the difference was how that material was presented. The clinic helped, but Turnaround worked."
"Turnaround has been amazing!"
"The program is the best money I have ever spent and I cannot recommend it highly enough to others with anxious children. Thank you so much."
-Stephanie, Great Britain.
"It was honestly a life saving program for my daughter and my family."
"I'm very thankful to have found the Turnaround program for my 8-year-old daughter. She was having severe panic attacks and since doing the program, has not had one. She enjoyed the process and I was impressed with the way the program was written and with the characters… I highly recommend it."
"We had great success with the Turnaround program."
"Our six year old was having a terrible time with starting kindergarten. We were prompted by his teacher to seek professional help. We first went to the Psychology Department for appointments as we, the parents, both work at a well known clinic. We found the appointments to be unhelpful and “over his head”. They seemed to focus on us, the parents, and were not on the level of our child at all. My Husband found the CDs online and we ordered them. Our son loved them and could really relate to the characters and messages. He still asks to listen to them and he is entirely over his fear of school."
"Thanks for creating Turnaround. We think the programme is BRILLIANT!!"
-Sarah from Australia.
"We recently started Turnaround with my 5-year-old daughter. She is a bit young for the program, so we have had to adapt it a little bit, but she is a different child than she was a month ago!"
-Cindy C., South Carolina.
