Panic Away – Review
So what is the Panic Away Program?
The short version: Panic Away is a complete home program to overcome anxiety and panic. It was developed by Barry McDonagh, who was himself a sufferer of anxiety and panic for over 30 years, until he discovered the key to stopping anxiety for himself. Barry wanted to help others learn how to get the same results, and so Panic Away was born.
The program has been tweaked and improved many times since Barry first began to share his methods, and it's now getting the interest of mental health professionals (you'll find a link to some impressive professional as well as personal testimonials below).
In his search for help, Barry worked with a number of top psychologists – he tried relaxation and breathing methods, cognitive therapy techniques, and all the other techniques that are used today to help anxiety sufferers overcome their anxiety, and which you've probably tried as well.
Barry got some relief from these techniques – but none of them was able to eliminate the root of his anxiety. Like cutting down weeds, the anxiety would just resurface again and again, and have to be dealt with again each time.
One day Barry discovered a very simple mental technique that was able to cut away his anxiety at its roots.... a technique that he now calls the “21-7 Technique”. Barry chose this name because the 21-7 technique stops panic within 21 seconds, and general anxiety within 7 minutes.
This technique – originally known as the “One Move” technique – is the key if you want to eliminate anxiety and panic, instead of just "managing" it.
Barry found that trying to calm down panic symptoms didn't work very well, but when he used the 21-7 technique (moving into a state of “excited arousal”, as he puts it), his body calmed down naturally, and his worries and obsessive thoughts cleared away like a fog lifting in the sunshine.
Barry realised that eliminating the fear of having a panic attack was the key to stopping panic at its roots, and he went on to create the Panic Away program, which has now reached over 60,000 people in 32 countries and has been featured on national television news and talk shows.
How does it work?
The first experience of anxiety or panic is usually caused by some sort of stress, or shock, or perhaps a physical symptom. But anxiety and panic attacks only become entrenched once this first response sets up a perpetuating cycle.
You've probably heard of the “fight or flight” response – this is the way your brain and body is programmed to respond to an emergency alert. Now, this “fight or flight” response is not anxiety – though it feels very similar, and can be quite scary, especially if you aren't sure what caused it. The fear this generates then adds another layer to the response – and before you know it, your heart is racing, you can't breathe, and you feel as though you are having a heart attack.
But for some reason your nervous system may become sensitised – and this is how chronic anxiety starts, because it doesn't take much to get the cycle going again... before long, the fear of having an anxiety attack is running your life, stopping you going out, making it hard to be in any sort of public setting. (Maybe your anxiety is a little bit different from this, but this is the core mechanism).
Watch this video to see how this might play out in your life:
Once you learn to break the cycle of fear, your brain shifts into a more rational mode – as Barry McDonaugh puts it, the fog lifts! At that point, you can use some of the other methods commonly used to overcome anxiety – relaxation, breathing, cognitive techniques (CBT) – techniques that don't work very well when your brain is in emergency mode, but are good for helping to manage your stress level.
“But I don't feel stressed,” I hear you say....
Well, you might not be aware of feeling stressed until you begin to relax.... but chances are, your baseline arousal level is higher than it needs to be, and it's making you more vulnerable to the anxiety cycle. So I highly recommend that you try these strategies as well as the 21-7 technique! You'll probably be pleasantly surprised at how much difference it makes, to have a whole toolkit of strategies to draw on.

What others say about Panic Away
Barry McDonagh has several pages of testimonials on his website.
You can go here to read them for yourself.
Here are a few of the comments from the Panic Away website (there you can find the full testimonials and others, with customer names and photographs):
“I wanted to let you know that my life has changed, really and radically and happily FOR THE BETTER. No more days and nights consumed by thoughts of panic attacks.”
“I just can`t express how much this unique technique has helped me from the very beginning. It`s incredible really. The technique is very simple and maybe that`s why it is so effective. Very soon my panic attacks went away and my background anxiety decreased drastically.”
“I have not been doing this for very long yet but I have already noticed a huge lift in my confidence and no sign of an attack.”
“It seemed to simple but then again in hind sight most things that work are just that and therefore easily overlooked.”
There are also comments from customers on Amazon :
“I was very impressed the first time I tried the technique when I felt an anxiety attack coming on. It stopped immediately! Also, implementing the ideas for general anxiety over the past few weeks has helped me feel much less anxious and for shorter time periods.”
“Well, this is really very interesting. I have been suffering from panic attacks for about three years and figured it was going to be a part of my DNA from this point forward. Although it's premature, it seems this program actually does work. The technique that is used takes a leap of faith but I used the same as a child to combat nightmares.”
“I saw Barry's product advertised on the web and immediately thought it was a gimmick so I ignored it.....I tried everything from drinking more to drinking less to herbal supplements (I never went the prescription drug route and discourage you from using that as a solution), I finally broke down and gave Panic Away a chance.....Nothing is easy and the cure is not immediate but it can come if you commit yourself to the program. I did and still do. Today I use the program as a maintenance method to remind me that our bodies challenge us some times and we have to be armed with the right tools (mentally and physically) to counter the enormous pressures we face on a daily basis.....Too often we turn to medication to solve our problems. Medication doesn't solve it--it masks them. Panic Away helps you get to the source of what is causing your anxiety and panic issues.
“If you are still not sold, there is one more benefit you receive from this purchase. The Panic Away Forum (www.panicaway/forum) filled with people just like you and me who deal with this every day. I have not been a vocal participant in the forum but I read many accounts of people who struggle just like I do with general anxiety and recovering from panic attacks. I use their stories and anecdotes to gain strength so I can beat the fears of GAD and panic. It is a powerful forum for support--there's nothing like it on the web--believe me, I've looked and there isn't. I encourage you to see the postings and use them to help you learn how others use the program and benefit from it. It's a great tool that Barry has set up as a way for us to share experiences with each other and offer the support we need to improve our lives. Those of us suffering from GAD and panic get it and the forum is a way to get help/support from those who "get it." Those who haven't ever felt what we feel can't possibly give you that perspective. It's an invaluable site that I access frequently and you will too--trust me.”
The Panic Away website is a member of the International Society for Mental Health Online (ISMHO), which outlines a set of professional standards for the provision of mental health over the internet.
Panic Away has been endorsed by mental health professionals.... here are some examples of what professionals are saying about Panic Away (read more on the Panic Away website):
Dr Harry Barry, a medical doctor and mental health expert based in Ireland, and a Director of Aware, the depression support organization, has this to say:
“‘Panic Away’ is a superb program designed to help those countless sufferers from anxiety in all its forms. I found Barry Mc Donagh’s approach to the treatment of panic attacks and phobias in particular to be a refreshing one – simple, practical and easy to use. I cannot recommend this program highly enough to anyone trapped in the ‘fear of fears’ that panic attacks and phobias generate.”
Dr Dahlia Keen, a licensed clinical psychologist in California, also recommends Panic Away:
“Panic Away is a useful, innovative and insightful technique to take charge and eliminate panic. Its clever and empowering short handed phrases enable a person to detach from their anxiety and challenge it full force.”
What does it cost?
That is less than the cost of one therapy session (and you probably already know that one therapy session won't get you very far).
This is the version to get if you like having everything in compact physical form that you can carry around with you!
This is great value for all you get in this package.... including the extra bonus (see below).

This is a forum where you can get support and practical help from others who have gone through the program. Just hearing others share their stories can be a great help, keeping you on track with the program, and letting you know that anxiety and panic can be overcome.
The bottom line
Panic Away is a program that can give amazing results for people who are suffering from panic and anxiety. It's based on sound clinical principles, and the program has been tested with literally hundreds of anxiety sufferers. And it's excellent value for what you get… the personalised help is worth every penny of what you will pay.
Will it help me?
A survey of users from the Panic Away forum showed that of 107 users who responded, 81 reported that the program “helped a lot” or “helped extremely”, while for the remaining 26 users, 17 were “helped somewhat”, 7 were “helped a little” and 2 were not helped at all.
It's not a magic cure… there are some techniques that can be extremely powerful and fast, to the point of seeming almost magical. But to get the best (and most lasting) results you do have to commit and work through the program systematically.
The users who reported the best results did stick with the program and do it properly – and the initial step, of fully facing and experiencing a full-blown panic attack (even with help and support), can be a bit daunting for some people.
But do you want to live with the fear of another panic attack, year after year?
